Mark Burns

Mark Burns joins Billion & Armitage with over 20 years of practice at another Minneapolis patent law firm, where he counseled clients ranging from startup ventures to multi-national enterprises.  After receiving his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Mark gained technical experience as an engineer at 3M Company in St. Paul, MN while obtaining his law degree at William Mitchell College of Law.

Mark has significant experience in various technologies, including thermal management materials and devices for the semiconductor industry, chemical analysis instrumentation and methods, chemical separations, corrosion inhibition, automation controls, medical devices such as valves, stents, grafts, catheters, patches, and infusion systems, vehicle suspension systems, and graphical imaging substrates.

In addition to patent prosecution, Mark works with clients to develop, manage, and enforce their entire intellectual property portfolio.  These activities include freedom to operate studies, merger and acquisition support, joint development agreements, technology control agreements, competitive landscape analysis, and validity investigations.  Mark also has extensive experience in trademarks, and routinely provides clearance opinions for brand development, and handles trademark registration prosecution and opposition proceedings.

Mark enjoys the outdoors, and is an avid skier (of both the snow and water type).  Mark does his best to keep up with his wife and teen daughters in whatever adventure they find themselves in.
