Mitch Goodrich
Patent Attorney
Mitch Goodrich practices intellectual property law in the chemical, machine learning, and mechanical engineering fields.
Before joining Billion & Armitage, Mitch served as Associate General Counsel for Intellectual Property at Scientific Design Company, where he oversaw patent prosecution, licensing, IP strategy and post-grant challenges. While at Scientific Design, Mitch led numerous challenges against competitors’ patents around the world, including successful inter partes review challenges in the U.S., as well as challenges in Europe, China, Taiwan, and Korea.
Mitch was a key member of the team that launched the company’s move into SaaS and cloud software offerings, including products powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence. He drafted the company’s first patent application on artificial neural networks for chemical-process optimization in 2013 and significantly expanded that portfolio thereafter. He also handled commercial transactions, negotiating and structuring complex, multi-jurisdictional license agreements for the company’s extensive process-technology offerings.
Mitch earned his B.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from Youngstown State University, and his M.S.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was author of publications in the fields of amorphous and nanocrystalline materials. He received his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. While attending law school, he worked as a process design engineer at the Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe, Ohio.
